An exhibition of comprehensive artwork by Harrington College of Design Instructor Ryan Kapp is currently showcased at the Thomas Moser Chicago Showroom through July 31, 2007.
Thomas Moser Cabinetmakers is hosting an artist reception for Kapp on Saturday June 2 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at 607 North State Street (Tree Studios at State and Ohio). The Alternative Gallery Space program highlights national and local artists in each of the Thomas Moser showrooms across the United States.
"An exhibition in a furniture gallery is nice because it’s a warm atypical venue," says Kapp. "The clientele differs from a traditional art gallery and both Thomas Moser and I benefit from the cross-pollination of people coming in for one thing - furniture, and getting exposed to the other - paintings, and vice versa." The exhibition features smaller oil on panel studies created by Kapp along with some of his most recent larger environmental canvases created from the studies.
Kapp is the Program Coordinator of the Foundations Department at Harrington College of Design, where he teaches introductory level design classes and oversees the development of the first year design curriculum. His paintings have been exhibited around the country and his graphic work frequently appears in a broad range of media. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Kapp moved to Chicago in 2000 to attend Northwestern University where, in 2002, he completed his Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. He began teaching at Harrington shortly thereafter, and was the recipient of an Educator of the Year Award in 2006.
