HARRINGTON COLLEGE OF DESIGN APPOINTS KISNER TO HEAD NEW COMMUNICATION DESIGN PROGRAM

For Immediate Release

CHICAGO – May 01, 2006 - - Harrington College of Design has appointed Bradley L. Kisner, 37, to chair its new Communication Design department. The program, which is now enrolling students for the fall, is the first in Chicago to offer an analytical and collaborative approach to design education, grounded in an understanding of the human condition.

Kisner, who holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Northern Illinois University and a master of fine arts degree from University of Illinois at Chicago , most recently was senior designer in the Teams Division of Wilson Sporting Goods. For the past nine years, he also has been on the adjunct faculty at the International Academy of Design & Technology in Chicago .

Prior to Wilson Sporting Goods, Kisner was a senior art director for Ambrosi & Associates' visual marketing group, and a senior art director for Image by Design.

Harrington's new Communication Design program is a 130-hour bachelor of fine arts degree program. In addition to design courses, students are required to study anthropology, psychology and sociology to learn how people and cultures interact with design.

The curriculum includes every facet of communication design, from graphic design and illustration to package design, typography, motion graphics and art direction. Verbal and written communication skills will be a major focus of all classes.

“Our goal is to develop problem solvers, not just technicians,” says Kisner. “By the time our students graduate, they will be able to evaluate a communication challenge, develop a comprehensive solution and take that solution from concept through completion.”

Kisner is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He serves on the board of the Highland Park Players and is active in the Oak Lawn Park District Theater.
