HARRINGTON COLLEGE OF DESIGN HOSTS DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SUMMER CAMP FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATORS

For Immediate Release

(Chicago, September 27, 2006) – The Harrington College of Design digital photography department hosted its first annual High School Educator Digital Summer Camp on July 14 and 15 2006. Eighteen local high school photography instructors received training on how to teach digital technology with little or no overhead.

"We wanted to create a collaborative environment with Harrington faculty, high school instructors, and representatives from photography manufacturers," said Dirk Fletcher, digital photography department chair at Harrington. "The idea was for educators to compare notes and receive real-time, hands-on experience with some of the latest equipment reserved for top professionals."

High school instructors had the opportunity to work with the latest Valeo digital backs from Leaf, as well as traditional camera and strobe equipment. The weekend included a field trip to Aurora for a large studio shoot at Will Crocket’s Shoot Smarter University, followed by a roundtable discussion on the importance of arts in high school education as a means for the non-traditional student to excel and succeed.

"I learned a lot and got some good project ideas," reported Debora Parisot, photography instructor at Peru-LaSalle Township High School. "I meet with graphic arts teachers frequently, but this is the first time that I have ever met with other photo teachers. It was a great opportunity."
