The Interior Design programs at Harrington College of Design were created with input from experienced professionals and employers in the industry. Our Interior Design courses are designed for students who want to be challenged both creatively and technically, who have aesthetic sensitivity, and who understand the importance of using space effectively and efficiently.
Our Interior Design courses in Chicago are taught in classrooms and labs that give our students real-life experiences. They learn on industry-current equipment that many of today’s interior design professionals use. And when they graduate, our students can be prepared to pursue exciting opportunities with the practical experience and valuable portfolio pieces that employers are looking for. Advanced Detailing
This Interior Design course requires the advanced application of technical knowledge and skills of Architectural Detailing through the preparation of comprehensive construction documents for a mixed-use building using AutoCAD.
Interior Design III
Advanced programming and design development of large-scaled (15,000 sq. ft. minimum and 20,000 sq. ft. maximum) residential and commercial project, focuses on spatial and volumetric concepts. Emphasis in this Interior Design class is on expression of structure, way finding, interior elements, design and accessibility standards.
Programming for Interior Design
This Interior Design course is an in-depth analysis of the programming phase of the interior design process. The student explores the strategies for developing the qualitative and quantitative aspects of a design project to ensure a methodology for thorough analysis. Research in human factors, the physiological and psychological aspects of the environment and client needs are studied along with code issues and sustainable design criteria.
Experimental Design
This Interior Design class emphasizes the application of design process skills to innovative design for a selected problem or problems in the interior environment through lectures, readings, discussions and development of a project. The topic may be a space, a room, a product (furniture or object) or other component of the built environment. Students may be asked to develop a prototype.
